Steroid Injections

About Steroid Injections

Injections of steroid (cortisone) and local anaesthetic provide vital treatment for musculoskeletal problems helping reduce pain, increase movement, promote healing and enable rehabilitation.

Often the injection is part of a wider rehab programme involving physiotherapy, but sometimes it can be used for long term pain relief or as a cure for a specific problem.

Your Appointment

For injections, usually a single 30-minute appointment is needed. I will listen to you describe your problem, ask about your medical history, review any x-rays you may already have, examine you and then discuss the options. If, together, we decide to go ahead, I will do the injection there and then.

I will advise you to rest the area for at least 24 hours. I may also advise you to have follow-up with a physiotherapist, or possibly a further appointment with me.
